Yoga for Regulation and Recovery
My specialty is gentle, meditative yoga classes for emotional regulation and physical recovery.
My yoga philosophy…
For me yoga is a way of life. It informs my diet, my values, my ambitions and even my faith. And from my complete immersion into this beautiful practice, I have one lesson to pass on to students- union. Union between you and your body, union between you and your mind, union between you and your spirit.
Yoga is about deepening your connection with yourself. This might look like noticing where in your body you feel an injury, or it might look like a conversation about why hip-opening poses bring out emotion in you. Every person brings something different to the mat, and my job as a teacher is to help you bring your attention to your own experience.
What can you expect from a class?
No mirrors, no music, no performing. My classes are set up to minimize distractions so the class is all about engaging in your experience. I teach hatha and yin style classes, which generally means we’ll be holding poses for longer periods of times than a vinyasa yoga class, with a focus on connecting with the breath to quiet the endless train of thoughts going through our minds.
My background as a teacher is working with people recovering from sport related injuries, older people recovering from the injuries of time, and younger people working through recovery from addiction and coping with mental health disorders.
This has shaped me into a gentle teacher- you won’t hear the words “push yourself” in my classes. We’ll find the line between what’s easy and what’s tense, and do all of our work right on that line for gradual growth and recovery.
I am currently offering yoga for martial artists.
As a martial artist myself I have separated my shoulder, worn down my knee, and tensed up almost every muscle in my body to the point of chronic pain. And I was taught to be proud of these injuries, and to just keep working hard to overcome them.
There’s a time and place to push through pain, but this type of training needs to be balanced with softness and recovery or else your injuries start to dominate your life. I started tailoring my personal, physical yoga practice to help my recovery from these injuries, and it’s made a huge difference in my life. I want to share this with other practitioners.
You can benefit from a class with me if you experience:
Chronic pain
Joint pain
Muscle stiffness
Constant fight or flight anxiety
