Learn the Art of Self Cultivation

Tantra comes from the Sanskrit words tan and tra. Tan: to weave, tra: practice or system. Tantra is the weaving of practices. Tantra recognizes the dualities of existence, and is a system of creating union between light and dark, masculine and feminine, spiritual and material.

This isn’t your average yoga class, the emphasis isn’t on fitness or sweating. In my classes we hold a sacred space for you to feel the full depth of your human experience. Students have described my class as relaxing and cathartic, and as a space to release.

This is for you if

  • You feel disconnected or overwhelmed.

  • You’re tired of performative yoga that focuses on just the body.

  • You’re searching for a space where you’re allowed to cry, breathe and be.

  • You crave stillness, gentleness and meaning.

I honor the familiar asana classes, but my expertise is in the ancient teachings of yoga. I share what I’ve learned about non-attachment, love, fear, and other concepts core to the human experience through messaging. Space is held in class for each student to share their experience in an open discussion- during our physical flow as well as the post-class tea time.

In my classes you set time aside to take care of yourself; to be introspective, to relax fully and deeply, to release the stress and pressure of your life and to care for the wounded parts of your self.

Class Options

Whether you’re interested in trying out one class, or you want to commit to your mindfulness practice long-term, we have you covered with several different price and class options.

  • Tantric yoga to help you slow down, feel deeply and reconnect with your body and spirit. Expect grounding movement, meaningful reflection, and a healing space where it’s safe to just be.

  • Feel and nourish the flow of energy in your body with Qigong movements, before practicing the Tai Chi forms. I teach the Tung Family, Yang Lineage 24 form style of Tai Chi. Every class is approachable for a beginner, and engaging for experienced practitioners.

  • Learn Hapkido, a Korean fighting art. Practice discipline, respect and power while learning practical self-defense skills that work in the real world and not just competitions.

  • Guided meditations and Dharma talks to help center you in times of turmoil. Set time aside to talk about what’s going on in your life, and receive guidance through a spiritual, yogic lens.

  • Enjoy a serene guided hike to a natural spring just outside of town. Center yourself in nature, meditate at a secluded waterfall, and drink tea brewed from fresh spring water.

Tools of Self-Cultivation

What is Lunar Lotus?

My name is Ash, and I am the owner and teacher at Lunar Lotus Wellness, serving in Southwest Portland, Oregon. The name Lunar Lotus is meant to combine the symbolism of the moon- intuition, softness, “the unseen”- and the lotus flower- perseverance, liberation, bliss. By working with the unseen parts of yourself, following your intuition and sitting in stillness you can toil through the mud of your life, like the lotus flower, and bloom into a place of understanding.

I am a 500 hour Yoga Alliance certified teacher, a black belt in Hapkido martial arts, and an active practitioner of Tai Chi. I also serve a delightful cup of tea in the traditional Chinese gaiwan style, which is available after every class.

Yoga and martial arts have these stories of great sages and masters who are able to perform incredible feats; controlling matter through pure discipline and intention, extending their lives indefinitely through meditation and realization. Achieving perfection of the human condition.

Whether you believe in the stories or not, I believe if you follow the paths laid out by these masters you only stand to gain a greater understanding of your self in the process. I follow this path, and I dedicate my life to the study and devotion of the lessons of great yogis and teachers. I humbly offer to share what I have learned, and to model the excellence that I hope to achieve through practice and discipline.

My life is a devotion to the study and practice yoga. Through this devotion I aim to allow the light of the divine to shine through me, pure and unobstructed. Part of this devotion is to share this sacred practice.

Testimonials

  • Ash, thank you for being a reliably great yoga instructor. Yoga was a great way to calm the mind and heart. I’ll never forget starting your class during a stressful work day, seeing my heartbeat at 109bpm, and ending after savasana at 62bpm.

  • I came into Yoga and Tai Chi with Lunar Lotus having had no previous experience with this type of exercise. I was an out of shape 63 year old women. I knew that if I did not make some changes in my physical health I was going to continue to decline health wise. Needless to say, I was a little nervous not knowing what I could actually do.

Ash was great in making me realize that whatever I could do was alright. No judgement or pressure. After regularly going to classes for 6 months, I can say that my body has become healthier. I am amazed by the ways my flexibility has improved. I went from touching my knees in a forward fold to touching the ground. My balance has improved also.

I am always thinking, I can’t do that move or I’m so awkward, then Ash will demonstrate the move over and over until I am less awkward and more confident. He is so good about explaining each move and giving tips to help you improve your movement.

It seems to me that Ash has trained rigorously and studied the arts he is teaching to become a supportive and knowledgeable role model and teacher. He has been instrumental in bringing me into a healthier mind and body space.

  • Knowledgeable, experienced, and a mindfulness instructor in the art of Tai Chi.

I am learning to slow down with intent. Ash, is an expert at his craft.

Ash was hired to lead 50 people at a Nonviolence Communication training to intentionally slow down and how to include Tai Chi wellness.

Ash was amazing introducing our organization to Tai Chi wellness.
